History of the Kazakh language

The history of Kazakh began approximately one thousand years ago. For a long time, it remained under the influence of the Russian language. Until 1929, it was written in the Arabic alphabet. Later the Soviet authorities introduced the Latin alphabet and finally the Cyrillic alphabet. The President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, described the 20th century as the period in which the language and culture of Kazakhstan were devastated. The authorities of Kazakhstan have begun to create the Latin alphabet for Kazakh. Currently in Kazakhstan, this language is written both in the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets. Over a million users of the Kazakh language in China use the Arabic alphabet similar to that which is used to write the Uyghur language.
