    Who speaks Hindi?

Depending on the calculation method, Hindi is spoken by 180 million or as many as 422 million people worldwide. This larger number results from taking into account the users of the Rajasthan, Bihari and Pahari languages, which are often classified as dialects of Hindi. Hindi belongs to the Indo-European language family, and specifically the Indo-Aryan languages. Hindi is primarily the official language of India. However, its users can also be found in Nepal, Fiji, Mauritius and Suriname. In addition, a large group of people speaking this language lives in Western Europe and the United States.

    History of the Hindi language

Similarly to other Indo-Aryan languages, Hindi is a direct descendant of an early form of Vedic Sanskrit, which appeared in the 7th century AD. Before the standardisation of Hindi, different dialects and languages gained prominence as a result of using them in literature (Avadhi and Braj Bhasha). Early Hindi literature was created in the 12th and 13th century AD. Works from this period included epics of Rajasthan. Hindi used nowadays is based on the Khari boli dialect, the national language of Delhi and its neighbouring areas, which replaced earlier dialects, such as Awadhi, Maithili and Braj Bhasha. Contemporary Hindi and its literary tradition developed at the end of the 18th century and in similar form also apply today.

    Hindi in business

Hindi will be indispensable if we want to carry out business activities in India. This market is becoming increasingly interesting for Polish entrepreneurs due to the very dynamic growth. The Polish Government and the Government of India signed an agreement concerning the support and mutual protection of investments. By the end of 2017, Polish companies invested the net amount of USD 271 million in India, whereas in the same period, Indian companies invested in Poland the net amount of approximately USD 103 million. Therefore, acting on those markets, it is extremely important to take care of professional translations of all corporate materials into Hindi. In the case of importing goods (e.g. textile or chemical materials, which are mainly imported from India) to the Polish market, it is worth taking care of professional translations from Hindi into Polish. It will definitely contribute to the success on the demanding international market.
