Who speaks Portuguese?
Portuguese is part of the Indo-European language family, specifically the group of the Romance languages. It is used by approximately 210 million people.
We will communicate in Portuguese first of all in Portugal, but also in numerous areas of former Portuguese colonies: Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Guineas Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Cape Verde and the St. Thomas Islands. In all these countries, it plays the role of the official language. Its users will be found in the USA, Great Britain, France, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Cuba, Sri Lanka and Bermuda.
History of the Portuguese language
Portuguese is relatively young – first records come from the 12th century. Portuguese originates from Latin. It was created on the basis of Galician, a dialect of the Spanish language, used in the north-west corner of Spain. Currently, the literary language is based on the northern dialect.
Use of the Portuguese language in business
Portuguese will be very useful in business relationships with countries from South America, where this language is still quite often used. Polish companies are increasingly open to those areas, whose economic role continues to grow. According to different estimates, Brazil will soon be one of the leading economic powers – in light of this information, the knowledge of Portuguese will not only be useful, but just desirable.
