Who speaks Bulgarian?
Bulgarian belongs to the group of the South Slavic languages (the Balkan group) constituting part of the Indo-European language family. Bulgarian is used by approximately 12 million people. A slightly modified Cyrillic is used for writing the Bulgarian language. Speaking it, we can communicate in the Balkans, Turkey, Hungary, Moldavia, some parts of Greece, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine and, of course, Bulgaria.
History of the Bulgarian language
Bulgarian comes from the original language of the Slavs, who arrived at the Balkan Peninsula around the 6th century AD. Contemporary Bulgarian includes traces of Proto-Bulgarians’ speech from the time when the Balkan Slavs merged with Proto-Bulgarians, creating jointly one country. The biggest changes in the Bulgarian language took place between the 12th and 14th century. In the middle of the 18th century, Bulgarian became a developed form of a language.
Bulgarian in business
Bulgarian is used in several countries, but they do not play a significant role in the international arena. A certain exception may be Bulgaria, which has become famous as one of the favourite holiday destinations of Poles. Thus, this language may be used only in relations with this country.
