Consecutive interpretation is the simplest form of translation service available for spoken language. Here the interpreter just listens while the speaker utters four or five sentences of their speech. When the speaker stops speaking, the interpreter then translates the whole segment. Consecutive interpretation works with only one target language, but this form of interpretation is very handy when you need to convey the message accurately.
The potential list of applications for consecutive translation is actually very broad, and it is an excellent choice for:
- Legal proceedings
- Medical consultations
- Business meetings
- Court interpretation training for interpreters who want to work in courts
- Personal interviews
- Small meetings (human resources meetings, parent-teacher conferences, etc.)
- Small events and conferences (you may need simultaneous interpreters for large conferences, if translations into multiple languages is required)And many other occasions!
This form of translation is frequently used during European Union and United Nations meetings.
If you are looking to translate your event into more than one foreign language, then simultaneous interpretation is a good option.
Do you need consecutive interpreting? Get in touch!
Very little! Professional consecutive interpreters just need a place to work, typically somewhere near the speaker, and a microphone. No soundproof booths or additional technical equipment. If you can provide some additional background information (such as the script of the speech, ideally), then that’s excellent!
Our professional interpreters are there to help you conduct any meeting or conference.
So what else is crucial in ensuring that the entire message is conveyed well?
Firstly, the consecutive interpreter needs a solid foundation in both languages. Their pronunciation has to be impeccable, and they also benefit from having active listening skills and an excellent memory. This is important, as phrasing the sentences in a different way may be required, as long as the essence remains the same. The interpreter has to listen to what the speaker is saying, but they also need to observe their body language to ensure a consistent translation.
This form of interpretation is very flexible and can easily be used during online/phone conversations. Another variant of consecutive interpreting is sworn consecutive interpreting, which is used whenever it is necessary to officially certify the conformity of the original text or when interpreting oral statements and declarations made before state authorities and other institutions.

Does the cost of an interpreting service include travel, board and accommodation for an interpreter?
If the company ordering an interpreting service does not provide travel, board, and accommodation, such costs are added to the service price.
