What is interpreting?
To coin a straightforward definition, we can say it’s a service of oral translation, executed usually during large events and business meetings when at least one of the participants doesn’t speak the same language (what’s important, interpreting refers to both spoken and signed languages).

Forms of interpreting
There are two basic forms of interpreting:
- Simultaneous interpreting: Here, the interpreter translates while the speaker is talking. Simultaneous interpreting is frequently used during large international events when there is a need to translate what’s being said into more than one foreign language. In this form of interpreting, interpreters are located in soundproof booths to hear just the speaker (who speaks to the microphone).
- Consecutive interpreting: In this form of interpretation, the speaker takes pauses every three or four sentences, thus enabling the interpreter to translate what was just said piece by piece.
