Who speaks Georgian?
Georgian belongs to a small family of the South Caucasian languages, constituting at the same time its most important part. The Georgian language is not uniform, it consists of more than 18 dialects, basically divided into Eastern and Western. Approximately 7.5 million people speak Georgian in the world.
The only country in which Georgian is the official language is Georgia. Outside this country, it may be useful in Turkey and Russia, as well as in some regions of Iran.
History of the Georgian language
The history of Georgian dates back to the 5th century AD. Some claim that the first traces of the alphabet comes from the 3rd century BC. Georgian has very rich, mainly liturgical literature. The history of Georgian is assumed to be divided into two main periods: Old Georgian – from the 5th to the 11th century and Modern Georgian – since the 12th century.
Georgian in business
Since Georgian is used only by the Georgians, its knowledge may be helpful in the development of business in Georgia. However, this is not a very common business destination. In the international arena, Georgian does not play a significant role.
